A Big Life: Bring Spring
Inside
Sissy and Surroundings Flowers and Events
Creative Director Cheryl Sadlowski give some great tips on creating
arrangements that will make any environment feel luminous.
- Almost anything can be used as a container or vase so why not get
creative? Use old pots, pans or even gravy boats from around the house
to spice up your arrangement and even save a little money.
- When cutting flowers make sure to cut the stems on an angle so that
they can absorb the water. Also, cutting the stems when flowers are
almost fully open helps many types of flowers last longer.
- Make sure you do your homework. Water temperature for flower varies
depending on the type. For example, poppies need boiling hot water to
keep the sap from draining out while tulips require cool water to
preserve them. Know what kind of water your flowers need to best
preserve them.
- When making a high-impact arrangement choose bold colors that are
exciting and that will add color to any room.
- Use fruits and vegetables to create a high-impact but low-cost
arrangement. All you need is an old bowl or cake pedestal to make your
fruits and vegetables into a beautiful centerpiece.
- If you are trying to give your fruit and vegetable arrangement a
nice luster try using some sort of oil (vegetable or olive) and work it
into your arrangement to create a nice sheen.
